Contractor dies in incident at BHP, Mitsubishi owned Goonyella Riverside ops

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance said Aug. 7 that a contractor from Independent Mining Services died at the Goonyella Riverside coal operation in Queensland, Australia.

The worker sustained injuries in an incident that occurred during maintenance work at the mine Aug. 5.

An investigation into the incident is underway.

BHP Billiton Group and Mitsubishi Corp. own the Goonyella Riverside operation on a 50/50 basis.
