Amazon to hire over 100,000 staff for 2018 holidays

Amazon.com Inc. said Oct. 17 that it will employ more than 100,000 people to fulfill orders across its U.S. operations during the 2018 holiday season.

The e-commerce giant said the seasonal workers will be paid $15 an hour to help fulfill customer orders, sort packages and load trucks, among other tasks.

Amazon, which announced a minimum wage hike in early October for its full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal employees across the U.S., said it received over 70,000 applications for seasonal jobs within the first 48 hours of the pay increase announcement.

The company added that it continues to hold job fairs — such as in California, Illinois, Washington, Kentucky, New Jersey and Florida — for roles in its fulfillment centers, sortation centers and delivery stations.

In 2017, Amazon also hired 100,000 seasonal workers for the holidays.
