Alibaba joins group to combat product counterfeiting

Alibaba GroupHolding Ltd. has joined the International AntiCounterfeitingCoalition to combat product counterfeiting and piracy.

Matthew Bassiur, vice president and head of global IPenforcement at Alibaba Group, said in an April 13 news release that preservingthe integrity of the Chinesee-commerce giant's marketplaces is a top priority. "Counterfeiting is aglobal, industry-wide issue, and effective collaboration with brands,retailers, trade associations, governments and other industry partners is a keycomponent to our overall success," Bassiur added.

Alibaba Group and the IACC's partnership began in 2013 withthe development of the IACC MarketSafe Program, an initiative to help IACCmembers identify and take down infringing listings on Alibaba's Taobao andTmall marketplaces via an expedited removal procedure.
