Direct Energy to supply renewable power to Sprint in Virginia

Centrica PLC unit Direct Energy Renewable Services struck a deal to supply Sprint Corp.'s 800 locations in Virginia with 100% renewable energy.

The locations include retail stories, cell phone towers and Sprint's corporate office in Reston, Va. Under the contract, Direct Energy will supply 88,000 MWh per year to Sprint's presence in the state.

Direct Energy recently signed up new power offtakers for new solar developments in Canada, California and Texas, it said in a Jan. 16 news release. Additionally, Sprint secured two new virtual power purchase agreements with power plants in Texas, part of a commitment it made last fall to run all of its operations off of renewable power by 2025.
