Equinix Inc. on Oct. 9 closed the €215 million all-cash acquisition of Carlyle Group LP's Itconic data center business in Spain and Portugal, including Itconic's Cloudmas subsidiary.

The deal, which was signed Sept. 8, has expanded the Equinix International Business Exchange data center portfolio by approximately 322,000 gross square feet, with the addition of four data centers in Spain — two in Madrid and one each in Barcelona and Seville — and another in Lisbon. Additionally, the acquisition is expected to support traffic growth between Europe, Latin America and Africa.

With the recent $93 million purchase of a data center in Istanbul, Equinix continues to grow its footprint globally and now operates more than 185 IBX data centers in 48 markets.
