MorganStanley advised NationalInterstate Corp. on its pending stake sale to American Financial Group Inc. unit Theinvestment bank also advised American International Group Inc. on its $3.4 billionpending of to

andJ.P. Morgan SecuritiesLLC also served as advisers on the United Guaranty deal, and thattransaction tied the two investment banks for second spot in the league tableby deal value through the three quarters of 2016.

Workingon four deals during the third quarter helped tiewith Barclays CapitalInc. for the top spot in the insurance underwriterfinancial adviser ranking by number of deals for the period ended Sept. 30.

Theinsurance underwriter space saw a decline in the number of deals during thethird quarter with 19 transactions, compared with 33 in the year-ago quarter.Total deal value was $4.17 billion, compared to $138.69 billion in the year-agoquarter.

Inthe insurance broker space, SmithSquare Partners LLP and Waller Helms Advisors LLC tied for third place in thatleague table by deal value through three quarters, thanks to their work onCover-More Group Ltd.'s pending $105 million acquisition of Omaha, Neb.-based TravelexInsurance Services Inc. announced during the third quarter. andPerella Weinberg PartnersLP did not land any deals during the third quarter, but they tiedfor the top spot in the financial adviser deal value rankings through the firstthree quarters.

Basedon number of deals, Sica FletcherLLC ranked first in the insurance broker financial adviser leaguetable ranking with eights deals in the third quarter and ranked third in thatcategory through three quarters with 26 deals.

Themost recent quarter saw 102 deals in the insurance broker space, versus 116seen in the third quarter of 2015. Total deal value was $151 million, comparedto $928.3 million in the year-ago quarter.
