Altech updates kaolin resource at Western Australian Meckering project

AltechChemicals Ltd. on July 8 reported an updated kaolin mineralresource estimate at its M70/1334 mining lease at Meckering, Western Australia.

In the indicated category, the mining lease hosts 11 milliontonnes of kaolin clay containing 45% minus 45 micron clay with a brightness of82.7%, at a cutoff of 80% brightness and 30% minus 45 micron.

Altech plans to mine about 120,000 tonnes of kaolin everythree years in short two-month mining campaigns, with ore to be stockpiled andshipped through the Fremantle port in Western Australia for processing intohigh purity alumina at the Johor Bahru plant in Malaysia.

It will now submit a mining proposal and mine closure planfor the project. The resource has been trimmed to 40 meters below surface andto 40 meters inside the mining lease boundaries and generally lies 5 meters to 8meters below surface.

The mining lease is about 130 kilometers away from Perth. Altechsaid in March that it plans to take on US$60 million in debt to finance the Johor Bahru plant.
