Seven of SNL Financial's eight European bank indexeswere negative in the first quarter, reflecting the market turbulence thatdominated February in particular.
By mid-February, all eight indexes had recordeddouble-digit falls compared to Dec. 30, 2015, and although all recovered someof their losses, only the SNL Eastern European Bank index finished in positiveterritory. The Mediterranean/southern European, U.K. and Ireland and German,Swiss and Austrian bank indexes all recorded declines in excess of 20% duringthe quarter.
