American Electric Power Co. Inc. has named Malcolm Smoak president and COO of its Southwestern Electric Power Co. utility, effective May 14.

Smoak has been serving as SWEPCO's interim president and COO since early May when Venita McCellon-Allen retired.

Smoak was previously vice president of distribution region operations for the utility.
