Major telcooperators Verizon CommunicationsInc., Telstra Corp.Ltd., KT Corp.and EE Ltd. haveteamed up to form the LTE-Broadcast Alliance, Rapid TV News reported April 28.
Thealliance reportedly aims to increase the device support for LTE-Broadcast(LTE-B) services, also known as evolved Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service (eMBMS)beginning in 2017. LTE-B is designed to enable telco operators to send a singlestream of data to all mobile users in one area, as opposed to sending anindividual stream to each user. With video being the cause of increased trafficin mobile networks, LTE-B can ensure a better mobile video experience to itscustomers in areas of high demand.
Thealliance, representing 200 million subscribers from North America, ,SouthKorea and the U.K., will alsodevelop critical communications services, Internet of Things and a 5G future,the report said.
