Brazil's congress to vote on pension reform in November, finance minister says

Brazil's Finance Minister Henrique Meirelles said he believes lawmakers will vote on pension reform in November, Diário Comércio Indústria & Serviços reported.

Meirelles said the reform "has been under discussion in Congress for a long time" and "is essential for the sustainability of the Brazilian public system and tax system."

Meanwhile, Congress is also expected to vote on the second set of criminal charges against President Michel Temer by the end of October, Meirelles said, noting that this would not hurt the progress of the social security reform.

The official said he believes that Congress' votes — whether on a tax renegotiating program, pension reform, or the denunciation of Temer — are separate things, with each having its proper merit.
