Report: Wal-Mart apologizes for signboard marketing guns as school products

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is apologizing over a photo that surfaced on social media, in which a signboard at one of the company's stores appeared to market guns as an appropriate back-to-school item, The New York Times reported Aug. 10.

The image shows a signboard reading "own the school year like a hero" hung above some firearms displayed in the store, reported The New York Times.

The retailer is trying to identify the store where the board appeared, a Wal-Mart spokesman told the Times in a telephone interview, adding that the company has not ruled out the possibility of the photo being a fake one.

In July, Wal-Mart apologized for a racial slur on its website.
