Work at AureusMining Inc.'s NewLiberty gold mine in Liberia was temporarily suspended May 7 due toproblems with the detoxification circuit in the process plant.
Mining operations are continuing at New Liberty to build up orestockpiles and undertake waste stripping.
Recent heavy rainfall caused a small overflow of effluent fromthe tailings storage facility onto the wetlands area within the mining lease area, the company said May 10.
Aureus is working to fix issues with the detoxification circuit, which has not been operating to original design specifications, and to manage futurewater discharge from the tailings facility in order for operations to restart.
The company said it has received no reports of any impact ofthe discharge on any human settlement, but investigations are in progress.
During the temporary suspension, the company will conduct a millreline, modify the detox circuit, and undertake other previously scheduled preventativeengineering maintenance and repairs.
Aureus achieved commercialproduction at the New Liberty mine in early March.
