Uber rolls out UK pilot of Jump electric-bike rental service

Uber Technologies Inc. launched its electric bike rental service Jump in the U.K., starting in the north London borough of Islington, the U.S. ride-hailing giant said in a release.

Uber will dispatch 350 Jump bikes in Islington starting May 24, with plans to expand to other London boroughs in the coming months.

The Jump bikes can be booked through Uber's existing app at £1 to unlock and 12 pence per minute to operate, with the first five minutes free. The bikes are tracked by GPS and have built-in cable locks that must be locked to end the trip, Uber said.

The U.K. pilot follows launches across the U.S. and Canada and in Berlin, Brussels, Lisbon and Paris.

Uber bought Jump in 2018 for a reported $200 million.
