The1,819-MW Quad Cities plant in Rock Island County, Ill., is one of the twonuclear generating stations in the state that Exelon plans to retire. The otherplant, the 1,078-MW ClintonPower Station in De Witt County, will be retired by June 1, 2017.
Accordingto the Exelon Corp.subsidiary, the facilities have lost a combined $800 million in the past sevenyears, despite being two of its best-performing plants.
Exelonhad earlier notifiedthe U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission of its decision to close the plants.Exelon plans to formally notify the MidcontinentIndependent System Operator Inc. of its closure plans for theClinton facility later this year.
subsidiary MidAmerican Energy Co.owns a 25% share of the Quad Cities plant.
