Constellation Brands Inc. announced Jan. 11 that it elected incoming CEO Bill Newlands to its board of directors, effective March 1.

Newlands, currently the company's president and COO, is scheduled to succeed Robert Sands as chief executive.

Sands will become executive chairman, replacing his brother Richard Sands, who will transition to executive vice chairman.

Newlands' election increases the number of Constellation Brands' board members from 12 to 13.
