Telia signs deals to secure future access to renewable energy

Telia Co. AB announced on June 27 it entered into new power purchase agreements in Denmark and Estonia to secure future access to renewable electricity and contribute to wind and solar energy production.

The Swedish telco signed a contract with Better Energy Solutions A/S and other partners in Denmark, under which an additional 125 GWh of renewable energy will be provided to the country's electricity grid each year.

Better Energy will also construct a new solar cell park, which will connect to the grid in two to three years and provide renewable electricity to the joint TTN network of Telia and Norway's Telenor ASA. The solar cell park aims to cover approximately 75% of TTN network's power consumption by 2024.

Meanwhile, Telia signed a large-scale agreement with Estonia's Eesti Energia AS, which will supply 156 GWh of renewable wind electricity to the telco over a five-year period, beginning at the end of 2022. The deal will cover 70% of Telia's energy needs for its fixed and mobile network, server rooms, control center and offices.

In 2021, Telia announced its target to reach zero carbon emissions and waste by 2030.
