Australian regulators approve Asahi's sale of beer, cider brands to Heineken

Asahi Group Holdings Ltd. said Dec. 21 that the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission and the Foreign Investment Review Board approved the sale of its beer and cider brands to Heineken NV.

The transaction includes Asahi's Stella Artois and Beck's beer brands and Strongbow, Little Green and Bonamy's cider labels.

Asahi said the financial impact of the transaction on its fiscal year ending December 2021 will be insignificant. The deal is due to close Jan. 5, 2021.

With this disposal, Asahi said it has satisfied all regulatory conditions related to its acquisition of Australia's Carlton & United Breweries from Anheuser-Busch Inbev SA. The deal closed in June.
