S&P Global has announced a strategic collaboration with two of its clients, the investment firms Cambridge Associates and Mercer, to develop a comprehensive set of performance analytics for private markets.
Launching in beta by year-end 2025, the aggregated, anonymized data will provide deeper insights into private markets performance at the:
The data will support a wide range of use cases, such as fund and deal performance benchmarking; dry powder analysis; and insights into fundraising and asset valuation trends.
The collaboration leverages the capabilities S&P Global’s iLEVEL platform which acts as a data clearinghouse, allowing GPs to report on a one-to-many basis with LPs and investment consultants. Both Cambridge Associates and Mercer use iLEVEL for client portfolio analysis, data collection or both today.
The initiative uses a new taxonomy that the three firms have developed to reflect the evolution of private markets investing, with more granular fund, asset, and deal characteristics. This will allow GPs to compare their performance against more relevant peers and will give LPs the tools to analyze fund performance in the appropriate context.
