How Banks Can Stay Ahead in Fixed Income: Takeaways from a recent S&P Global Webinar

On October 6, 2026, S&P Global Market Intelligence and S&P Dow Jones Indices teamed up for “How Banks Can Stay Ahead in the Fixed Income Market,” an event made special by this collaboration. Anu R. Ganti, CFA, Head of U.S. Index Investment Strategy, represented S&P Dow Jones Indices. From S&P Global Market Intelligence, Patricia Medina led the event and participated as a speaker and moderator together with Ranvir Vala, Senior Product Manager, Fixed Income and Nishant Shrimali, Associate Director, Index Product Management. Together, all four speakers covered fixed income indices, a market overview, and product expansion. For those who missed it, or wish to revisit the key takeaways, the webinar replay is now available.

Executive Summary

  • This webinar was a collaboration between S&P Global Market Intelligence and S&P Dow Jones Indices. It showed banks how to combine indices, market data, and AI-powered tools to track fixed income risk, and it made the case for indexing in bonds, backed by SPIVA data.
  • Credit spreads on investment grade and high yield indices look tight, but there are pockets of stress underneath: AI-related technology issuance, rising technology CDS spreads, and Business Development Companies (BDC)-driven pressure in financial credit which the new CDX Financials Index now captures.
  • S&P Global, Inc., continues expanding fixed income data and benchmarking tools in Capital IQ Pro, with more indices and solutions coming next.

S&P Dow Jones Indices for Fixed Income

Anu R. Ganti, CFA, opened with the tradable ecosystem linked to S&P DJI fixed income indices. She covered income strategies, the growing Collateralized Loan Obligation market, and the 2025 liquid index review. She also discussed the CDX Financials Index, launched April 13, 2026, which holds 25 equally weighted constituents and excludes G-SIBs. The SPIVA U.S. Mid-Year 2026 Scorecard shows that 84–94% of active government, investment grade, and high yield funds underperformed their benchmarks over 15 years, offering evidence supporting indexing in bonds.

S&P Global Market Intelligence for Fixed Income

Patricia Medina turned to market signals across indices, CDS, bond yield curves, and macroeconomic data. iBoxx $ Liquid Investment Grade and High Yield indices show tight credit spreads while U.S. technology spreads are widening on AI-related issuance and other factors. Sovereign risk is also moving. Five-year CDS spreads across certain G7 countries are under upward pressure in Q3 within the sovereign CDS offering. She rounded out the picture with a macroeconomic discussion on U.S. core PCE, U.S. labor market, G7 growth, and budget deficits, then showed how a Fixed Income Dashboard pulls these signals together.

Fixed Income Expansion

Ranvir Vala outlined how S&P Global, Inc., has built out its fixed income coverage, and noted that the company has invested more than $1 billion in AI capabilities since 2018. The growth began with loans and broadened to include government, sovereign, agency, corporate, and municipal bonds. It was followed by CDS, iBoxx suite of indices, structured finance, and security-level ownership. All of them make a stronger S&P Capital IQ Pro, with more enhancements planned.

Fixed Income Benchmarking on Capital IQ Pro

Nishant Shrimali focused on benchmarking in S&P Capital IQ Pro. It brings together iBoxx indices, Morningstar Leveraged Loan indices, Moody’s sector-rated bond indices, and 1,400+ ICE BofA Merrill Lynch benchmarks, with yields, spreads, and other metrics. These solutions are built for investment bankers, investment managers, portfolio managers, risk professionals, and performance analysts. He also covered CDX and iTraxx CDS indices, which offer intraday data and constituents, and more exciting products on the way.
