Indexes for US equity real estate investment trusts fell further alongside the broader stock market during the week ended March 13.
The Dow Jones Equity All REIT index closed the recent week down 1.52%, while the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 1.60% and 1.99%, respectively.
Most Dow Jones US real estate property sector indexes closed the week in the red. The largest declines were in the apartment and hotel REIT indexes, down 4.32% and 4.29%, respectively. The office and self-storage REIT indexes followed with declines of 3.22% and 2.30%, respectively.
The healthcare REIT index was the only property sector index to rise, and was up 1.17%.
US equity REITs, healthcare REIT Medical Properties Trust Inc. logged the largest share-price decline and was down 12.43%. Diversified REIT AH Realty Trust Inc. and cold-storage-oriented Americold Realty Trust Inc. followed with share-price declines of 12.06% and 11.03%, respectively.
New York-focused Alexander's Inc. recorded the largest REIT sector share-price increase for the week, up 4.42%. Healthcare REIT Diversified Healthcare Trust and data center REIT Equinix Inc. followed, with share-price increases of 4.33% and 3.49%, respectively.
