Sunrise UPC unveils technology to save electricity consumption in 5G network

Sunrise Communications Group AG-UPC Schweiz introduced a technological solution that would reduce energy consumption in its 5G network.

PowerStar, the artificial intelligence-based technology of the newly merged Swiss operators, will help save over 12,000 kWh of mobile network power consumption per day, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a Swiss community of about 650 people.

The solution will also see the network's electricity consumption to drop by about 4 GWh per year.

PowerStar also provides comprehensive end-to-end energy savings for 2G, 3G and 4G radio access technologies.
