Glencore PLC suspended its Antapaccay copper operations in Peru due to a road blockade by local communities, Reuters reported March 11, citing a statement.
Antapaccay is located near the city of Espinar and is one of the country's top producing copper mines, contributing 8.8% of Peru's copper output in 2020, according to the newswire.
In July 2020, the newswire reported that communities near Espinar attacked a mining convoy from MMG Ltd.'s Las Bambas mine amid protests over additional benefits.
