Versant Power selected Itron Inc. to install its smart grid solutions across the electric transmission and distribution utility's service territory in Maine, Itron announced Jan. 19.
Itron will supply an internet-of-things, or IoT, network and more than 160,000 distributed intelligence-enabled meters, according to a news release. Versant Power plans to initiate some project activities in 2021, while meter installations are scheduled to begin in 2022.
The solutions are expected to lay the foundation for future customer programs and help improve the utility's outage management capability.
Versant Power is owned by ENMAX Corp., which is owned by the city of Calgary, Alberta. The utility serves nearly 160,000 customers in northern and eastern Maine.
