Magna International Inc. said June 13 that it partnered with Michigan-based startup May Mobility Inc. to deploy self-driving shuttles in the U.S.
The Canadian auto parts maker said May Mobility will design the vehicles, while Magna will assemble them at the startup's custom build center in Troy, Mich. Magna will do the cars' full rebuild, including body modifications, drive-by-wire upfitting to convert cars into autonomous vehicles and sensor integration.
The initial fleet of vehicles will debut June 26 in Detroit.
