French insurer CNP Assurances to double green investments

French insurance company CNP Assurances SA will double its green investments and speed up its efforts to exit coal financing.

In 2018, the company had €10.4 billion of green investments, such as in low-carbon transport, green bonds and forests, which it aims to increase to €20 billion by the end of 2023.

It also said that it will exit investments in companies with 20% or more revenue linked to thermal coal, down from 25% previously, and will no longer invest in any company developing new coal-fired power plants, compared to the 120 largest such companies that it currently excludes. It will also ask companies to which it is directly exposed to publish a thermal coal exit plan by 2021.
