Patent verdict against Samsung reinstated in Apple's favor

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington, D.C., reinstated a $119.6 million jury verdict in favor of Apple Inc. against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Reuters reported Oct. 7.

The court also upheld the jury award of $158,400 that Samsung was ordered to pay in damages to the iPhone maker. The court reportedly did not limit itself regarding the scope of its review as it also examined evidence outside the case record.

The court, in an 8-3 verdict, decided that there was ample evidence for the jury award regarding Samsung infringing on Apple's patents. The patents in question had to do with autocorrect and slide-to-unlock features, along with the quick link feature which turns information such as phone numbers into links, according to the report.

Earlier this year, a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the same circuit reversed the jury verdict that ordered Samsung to pay the amount for infringing on the Apple patents.
