Altona Energy eyes conventional mining for Arckaringa coal JV

Altona Energy Plc said Aug. 10 that it agreed to revise its strategy for exploring the Arckaringa coal project in South Australia with partners Sino-Aus Energy Group Ltd. and Wintask Group Ltd., following a breakdown in negotiations with the owner of petroleum exploration license application 604.

The new plan will see the company employ conventional coal mining techniques to extract the coal deposits, which will then be processed to extract gas for electricity generation.

The joint venture will appoint WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff to produce a report to review the most viable options for coal extraction.
