Zenobe Energy Ltd., a U.K.-based electric vehicle fleet and battery storage company, has reached financial close and started construction on a 50-MW/100-MWh battery storage project in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
The project will be the first battery to connect directly to the Scottish transmission grid, Zenobe said in an April 28 news release. The battery will be used as part of National Grid Electricity System Operator Ltd.'s constraints management pathfinder project, which will help raise transmission capacity for the region.
The project, scheduled to come online by the end of 2022, will allow 640 GWh of additional renewable power to travel from north to south over the next 15 years.
Centrica PLC will be the route-to-market provider and will optimize the battery and open access to various revenue streams for the project. Fluence Energy Inc. will be the battery energy storage system supplier, and H&MV will be the principal designer and contractor. Santander UK provided financing for the project.
