Dunkirk, N.Y.-based Lake Shore Bancorp Inc. disclosed that its banking unit, Lake Shore Savings Bank, experienced a data security incident that prevented employees from accessing internal systems and data sometime in November 2021.
The bank investigated the incident with the help of a digital forensics company and notified law enforcement and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency regarding the event, according to a Form 8-K filing.
Through the investigation, the bank identified unauthorized access to certain data in its internal systems but said in the filing that it believes that none of its core banking and electronic interfaces, including deposit and loan systems, online/mobile banking systems or ATM systems, were impacted.
While there is no evidence of misuse of customer personal information, the bank notified affected customers about the incident and offered them identity theft protection services. The bank also added network security safeguards, according to the filing.
