Howden nears deal to buy TigerRisk; Berkshire/HCI Group reinsurance pact

Howden Broking Group Ltd. is nearing a deal to acquire TigerRisk Partners LLC for about $1.5 billion, Insurance Insider reported. TigerRisk founder Rod Fox will assume the chairman role at TigerRisk Partners, while Rob Bredahl will serve as CEO.

Hub International Ltd. acquired Sandy Spring Bancorp Inc.'s insurance business. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC acquired Portland, Maine-based Clark Insurance for undisclosed terms.

Ryan Specialty Group Holdings Inc. is changing its name to Ryan Specialty Holdings Inc., effective June 6. The company's ticker symbol will remain unchanged.

Reinsurance

SiriusPoint Ltd. made an investment in managing general agency Samos Insurance, which offers a first-of-its-kind accidental death insurance product for surgical procedures.

Louisiana Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is seeking up to $200 million of reinsurance protection for losses from named storms and severe thunderstorms in Louisiana through the Catahoula II Re Pte. Ltd. series 2022-1 catastrophe bond, Artemis reported.

Core Specialty Insurance Holdings Inc. is seeking between $65 million and $75 million of multiperil reinsurance coverage in the U.S. through the Yosemite Re Ltd. series 2022-1 catastrophe bond, Artemis reported.

The Marlin Re Ltd. catastrophe bond for Southern Fidelity Insurance Co. Inc. will no longer be issued, Artemis reported. The bond for Weston Property & Casualty Insurance Co., however, remains in the market.

Universal Insurance Holdings Inc. subsidiaries Universal Property & Casualty Insurance Co. and American Platinum Property and Casualty Insurance Co. have completed their 2022-2023 reinsurance programs, effective June 1. Palomar Holdings Inc. has also completed certain reinsurance programs incepting June 1.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. subsidiaries wrote a roughly $400 million reinsurance deal for HCI Group Inc. as part of the June renewals, Insurance Insider reported, citing sources.
