FERC OKs start to Louisiana XPress pipe; FERC eyes gas infrastructure policy

Columbia Gulf gets FERC sign-off to start service on Louisiana XPress project

TC Energy Corp.'s Columbia Gulf Transmission LLC received permission from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to place into service the natural gas compressors that are part of the Louisiana XPress pipeline project, which will supply Cheniere Energy Inc.'s Sabine Pass LNG export terminal. In a Jan. 4 letter order, FERC approved a request for authorization to allow partial service to start as early as Jan. 7.

FERC sets sights on gas infrastructure policy in 2022

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will strive to bring commissioners together to update decades-old policy for permitting natural gas pipelines in one of its biggest efforts for 2022. The commission is under pressure from the courts, environmental groups and within the commission to modernize its natural gas infrastructure permitting process.

FERC OKs MISO plan to block fuel changes during interconnection

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved a plan by the Midcontinent ISO to prevent generators from changing their fuel source during the interconnection process and to speed the timeline for a generator to get surplus interconnection service, according to an order issued Dec. 30, 2021. Taken together, the changes are significant because they provide flexibility for hybrid facilities to drop or add a fuel source during the interconnection process without causing delays or creating opportunities to game the system.

AEP completes sale of Ohio hydroelectric facility to Eagle Creek

American Electric Power Co. Inc. subsidiary AEP Generation Resources completed the sale of the 48-MW Racine hydroelectric facility in Ohio to Eagle Creek Renewable Energy LLC for an undisclosed price. AEP reached an agreement to sell the plant in February 2021, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the transfer in December 2021.
