Enea SA and Last Energy are teaming up to develop 20-MW small modular reactors in Poland in an effort to support the country's goal of reaching electricity independence.
Last Energy's development model aims to deliver a power plant within two years of signing, the company said in a June 23 statement announcing the plan. The U.S.-based company said it provides the full cycle of nuclear project development from design and construction to decommissioning of the power plant at the end of its operation.
State-controlled Enea aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.
"Enea Group will be able to use the small modular reactor technology to build its own production capacity, and also to offer solutions for the industry and for Poland," Enea CEO Pawel Majewski said in the statement. "Commercialization of [small modular reactor] solutions will have a positive impact on energy security, the environment, and the competitiveness of the Polish economy."
