Empire District Electric closes purchase of 149-MW Mo. wind farm

Empire District Electric Co. completed the acquisition of the planned 149-MW North Fork Ridge Wind Farm in Jasper County, Mo., from Tenaska Energy Inc. and Vestas Wind Systems A/S.

The Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. subsidiary wrapped the purchase (EC21-21) of a 100% class B stake in the project Jan. 27, according to a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission filing.

The deal is part of a broader plan in which Empire District is adding 600 MW of wind resources to its portfolio.
