East Kentucky Power accepting bids for spot coal deliveries at Spurlock units

East Kentucky Power Cooperative Inc. is soliciting proposals for spot deliveries of coal for units 1 and 2 of its coal-fired H.L. Spurlock power station near Maysville, Ky.

The utility company will accept bids for deliveries of up to 125,000 tons per month beginning April 1, for a term of up to six months. It will consider all fuel options. The request for proposals came on the same day as it sought bids to supply units 3 and 4 of the Spurlock power station.

Coal should be minimum of 11,000 Btu/lb, a maximum of 15% ash and maximum 4 lbs SO2/MMBtu, all on an "as received" basis.

East Kentucky Power requires all bids to have a full proximate analysis, including grindability, mineral/ash including trace elements, ultimate analysis, ash fusions, as well as slagging and fouling factor calculations.

The Spurlock power station units can receive coal by barge on the Ohio River at milepost 414.1 or by rail at Charleston Bottoms, Ky., via CSX Transportation Inc.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 9 a.m. ET on March 10, with a minimum validity of 30 days. East Kentucky Power will receive the proposals via email to spurlock.proposal@ekpc.coop.
