Duke Energy Corp. subsidiary Duke Energy Florida LLC completed three battery storage projects with a total capacity of roughly 34 MW.
The Florida projects are an 18-MW battery project in the company's 45-MW Lake Placid Solar Project in Highlands County, the 11-MW Trenton Battery Facility in Gilchrist County and the 5.5-MW Cape San Blas Battery Facility in Gulf County.
In August 2020, Duke Energy Florida announced plans to install the Lake Placid battery project. The company said in June 2019 that it would build three lithium-based battery storage projects, which included the Trenton and Cape San Blas facilities.
The new facilities "will enhance the customer experience by continuing to modernize grid operations, improve overall reliability and support critical services during power outages," Duke Energy Florida said in a March 10 news release.
Duke Energy said it will have six battery sites in operation in Florida in 2022 totaling 50 MW of energy storage.
