Within S&P Global Market Intelligence, Credit Analytics product enables non-financial corporations, financial institutions, and SMEs to measure, monitor and monetize credit risk. RiskGauge™ is its flagship credit risk model, that employs advanced machine learning techniques to combine market, financial and business risk factors and generate a credit score for public and private companies, of any size, globally.
Company fundamentals are the staple of any standard credit risk assessment. However, across the globe the amount and quality of information available on private companies tend to decrease with firm’s size. To make things harder, in certain jurisdictions like in the United States (U.S.), there is no requirement for private companies to report their financials, and thus risk managers often are forced to use anchor risk assessments based on a peer group of companies with financial information, operating in the same country and industry. This approach leads millions of SMEs without financials to be assessed with the same credit risk score, and leaves risk managers grappling with the problem of identifying the less vulnerable businesses.
S&P Global Market Intelligence needed a comprehensive dataset to enhance the granularity of its credit risk assessment on private companies in the United States, while also meeting required anonymity standards.

Powerlytics delivers proprietary datasets that feature complete business financial statements on over 30 million U.S. private businesses, by integrating publicly available information from trusted U.S. government sources.
Through Powerlytics, S&P Global Market Intelligence enhanced its quantitative risk model, RiskGauge™, to generate more granular credit scores on U.S. private companies, by leveraging up to 16,000+ cohorts of firms, segmented by state/zip code, industry and size.
Risk managers at non-financial corporations and financial institutions can leverage RiskGauge scores to assess and monitor credit risk of business partners, as well as help setting maximum exposure limits to manage customers’ trade receivable limits.
