Global private equity, venture capital rounds of funding down in April

Global private equity and venture capital investments through rounds of funding totaled $30.8 billion in April, down 32.5% from March, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.

The number of funding rounds also declined, falling 11.6% month over month to 1,128 — the lowest monthly tally since at least January 2024.

However, for the year through April 30, the value of funding rounds totaled $300.01 billion, 93.2% higher compared to the year-ago period.

Aggregate transaction values and volume may not match figures reported for preceding periods due to subsequently acquired disclosures and updates.

Fewer TMT deals

Most private equity and venture capital investments through rounds of funding in April went to the technology, media and telecommunications (TMT) sector, which secured $9.33 billion — accounting for 29.9% of the total funding raised that month.

The sector recorded 323 funding rounds in April, down 44.2% year over year.

Among TMT subsectors, application software attracted the most funding in April, with 161 transactions, followed by systems software with 30. Year over year, the number of rounds of funding for application software and systems software declined by 46% and 68.8%, respectively.

Largest deals

TMT accounted for three of the largest funding rounds in April: Chongqing Landian Technology Co. Ltd.'s $1.1 billion capital raise and two separate $500 million rounds for Beijing Chusudu Technology Co. Ltd. and for Ricursive Intelligence Inc.

The largest funding round in April was in the energy and utilities sector: Blackstone Infrastructure Partners LP's $2.3 billion equity investment in energy company Eurowind Energy A/S.
