Indexes for US equity real estate investment trusts increased during the week of Christmas.
The Dow Jones Equity All REIT index climbed 1.14% over the recent week, roughly in line with the 1.40% gain for the S&P 500 and 1.20% increase for the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
All Dow Jones US real estate property sector indexes also logged increases for the past week, with the apartment REIT index leading the way, up 2.43%. The self-storage and retail REIT indexes followed next, up 0.99% and 0.87%, respectively.
Multifamily REIT Aimco recorded the largest share-price increase for the week among all US REITs with at least $200 million in market capitalization, up 6.76%. Cold storage-oriented Americold Realty Trust Inc. ranked second with a weekly increase of 4.91%, followed by multifamily REIT Independence Realty Trust Inc. with an increase of 4.35%.
On the other end, data center REIT Fermi Inc. logged the largest weekly share-price decline, down 9.72%. Hotel-focused Service Properties Trust and healthcare REIT Diversified Healthcare Trust followed next with share-price declines of 8.38% and 6.61%, respectively.
