Global venture capital investments decline YOY in June

Global venture capital investment fell 45.2% year over year in June to a total $34.35 billion, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.

The number of funding rounds with venture capital participation also dropped, falling 29.7% to 1,683 rounds. There was an uplift month over month, however, and the amount raised via funding rounds increased 24.14% from $27.67 billion in May.

U.S. and Canadian companies raised nearly $14.0 billion in 541 funding rounds. Asia-Pacific received $9.7 billion in 565 rounds, while Europe secured $8.8 billion across 452 transactions.

The technology, media and telecommunications sector remained the biggest recipient of venture capital, pulling in 45.9% of the total in June. The industrial sector followed with 13.2%, then healthcare with 13.0%.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp.'s $1.73 billion mature funding round was the largest venture capital investment announced during the month. Angel Box Co. Ltd. participated in the round.

Next up was Beaverton, Ore.-based Intersect Power LLC, which secured $750.0 million from investors including TPG Capital LP's TPG Rise Climate LP fund, Climate Adaptive Infrastructure, and Trilantic North America's Trilantic Energy Partners (North America) LP fund.

Chinese chip manufacturer Guangzhou Cansemi Technology Inc. took the third spot, raising $671.7 million from investors including Guangdong Finance Fund Management Co. Ltd., Beijing Automotive Group Industry Investment Co. Ltd., CMB International Capital Holdings Corp. Ltd., GAC Capital Co. Ltd., GF Securities Co. Ltd., Guangdong Finance Fund Management's Guangdong Semiconductor and Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund Partners, Guangzhou Yuexiu Industrial Investment Fund Management Co. Ltd., SAIC Venture Capital, Science City (GZ) Investment Group Co. Ltd. and Walden International.
