Germany's Siemens Energy AG and France's L'Air Liquide SA have formed a joint venture to produce industrial-scale green hydrogen electrolyzers in Europe, the companies announced in a June 23 news release.
The joint venture will establish a factory in Berlin that will produce electrolysis modules, or stacks, which will be supplied to both companies for their respective customers and projects.
Production at the factory is scheduled to start in the second half of 2023. The facility is expected to achieve an annual production capacity of 3 GW by 2025.
One of the first projects that will be supplied with the modules is Air Liquide's 200-MW Normand'Hy electrolyzer project in Normandy, France.
Siemens Energy will hold a 74.9% stake in the joint venture, with Air Liquide owning the remaining 25.1% interest, subject to regulatory approval. The companies also agreed to invest in the research and development of next-generation electrolyzer technologies.
Siemens Energy and Air Liquide are applying for funding under the European Union's scheme for hydrogen projects.
