Seven West Media Ltd. unit Seven Network (Operations) Ltd. lodged court proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia, seeking to terminate its media rights agreement with Cricket Australia over the latter's alleged multiple violations of the deal.
The Australian media group is also seeking damages arising out of past contract breaches, according to a June 30 news release.
Seven said attempts to resolve the dispute via an informal procedure under the rights deal failed.
In 2018, Seven entered a six-year A$82 million-a-year agreement to be the free-to-air broadcast partner of Cricket Australia. However, it sought large cuts to the deal in late 2020, ESPN reported June 30.
