Italy selects Fastweb, Aruba for cloud hub – Reuters

Italy selected internet company Fastweb SpA and web hosting company Aruba SpA's offer to build cloud-based infrastructure called the National Strategic Hub to store public administration data, Reuters reported June 22, citing a statement.

This came almost nine months after a rival consortium comprising Telecom Italia SpA, state lender Cassa depositi e prestiti SpA, defense technology company Leonardo SpA and state-backed IT group Sogei presented their plan for the hub in September 2021.

The Italian Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digital Transition granted the Telecom Italia consortium 15 days to match the offer from Fastweb and Aruba, according to the report.

The cloud hub is part of the government's plans to boost digital transformation and national data security as well as limit the country's reliance on large foreign tech companies.

Swisscom AG is the parent of Fastweb.
