The last of seven units at the 695-MW Keeyask Generating Station (Gull) in Manitoba started operations, contractor Bechtel Group Inc. said May 12.
The hydroelectric project consists of a seven-unit powerhouse separated from a seven-gate spillway on the south side of Gull Rapids, connected by three dams across the rapids. The facility started producing power in March 2021.
The project was undertaken by Manitoba Hydro-Electric Board and the Keeyask Cree Nations, a partnership of four First Nations consisting of the Tataskweyak Cree Nation, War Lake First Nation, York Factory First Nation and Fox Lake Cree Nation.
Manitoba Hydro holds a 75% stake in the project, while the four First Nations have a stake of 6.25% each, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
