AES Corp. entered into a 20-year agreement to supply renewable energy to Microsoft Corp.'s data centers in California, the company said May 4.
AES will source the energy from a portfolio of 110-MWac solar and 55-MW, four-hour storage projects in the California ISO region, according to a news release.
"AES' presence and critical capabilities in California will support our transition to 100% renewable energy by 2025 and enable us to move forward in having 100% of our electricity matched by zero-carbon resources all the time in the state," Brian Janous, Microsoft's general manager for energy and renewables, said in the statement.
In April, AES subsidiary AES Andes SA signed a contract to supply solar and wind energy to Microsoft unit Microsoft Chile SA's data center in Chile.
