Meta Platforms Inc. announced plans to open its first Meta Lab in Spain, which would lead to the creation of 2,000 jobs in the country over the next five years.
The U.S. tech company also said it intends to deploy new connectivity infrastructure, with the 2Africa subsea cable system and other subsea cables to land in Spain. Meta also aims to launch the process to build a new data center in Castilla La Mancha.
Meta, which plans to double its office space in Madrid, will also work with Spanish telco Telefónica SA to establish a Metaverse Innovation Hub in the same city.
The company began operations in Spain in 2009 and set up its first local office in 2015.
