Medical Properties completes sale of hospital portfolio stake to Macquarie

Medical Properties Trust Inc. completed the sale of a 50% stake in eight Massachusetts hospitals to a private fund managed by Macquarie Asset Management Inc.

The deal with Macquarie Infrastructure Partners V values the portfolio at $1.7 billion.

The healthcare real estate investment trust received cash proceeds of approximately $1.3 billion, which was used to repay debt.

Steward Health Care System operates the hospitals.
