Belgian grid operator Elia Group SA/NV established a new subsidiary, WindGrid, to pursue offshore grid infrastructure activities overseas.
The Elia Group board approved the formation of WindGrid, which the company sees as a logical step toward becoming an international energy company, according to a Feb. 22 news release.
"WindGrid will be a reliable partner for governments that want to proactively build offshore grid infrastructure and renewable energy developers that are looking for solutions which will allow them to securely connect and integrate their offshore energy projects into onshore electricity network," Elia Group CEO Chris Peeters said.
Markus Laukamp, managing director of German company STEAG New Energies GmbH, will assume the CEO role at WindGrid on April 1.
