A D.R. Horton Inc. subsidiary is building a massive community in Hays County, Texas, that will offer a mix of single-family homes, apartments and duplex units, the Austin Business Journal reported, citing company executives.
The planned community, dubbed Prairie Lakes, will also feature some 20 acres of commercial space.
City documents reportedly show the single-family homes will have a minimum area of 1,200 square feet on about 2,200 lots, while the multifamily component will span about 20 acres. The size of the duplexes was not disclosed.
The roughly 1,000-acre development site is split between the jurisdictions of the cities of Niederwald and Kyle, and two reservoirs bisect the property.
The first phase of construction will start later in February at 11 Williamson Road on the Niederwald side. Development on the Kyle side, which has just received city council approval, will begin in about a year.
It cannot be determined whether D.R. Horton will solely develop the entire property, according to the publication.
