Cambridge Power, Brookfield Renewable to develop battery storage portfolio in UK

Cambridge Power Ltd. and Brookfield Renewable Partners LP entered a framework agreement to develop a portfolio of battery energy storage system sites across the U.K.

Under the agreement, the companies agreed to develop, on an exclusive basis, more than 800 MW of fully consented BESS assets and 185 MW of co-located solar for investment over the next five years, Cambridge Power said in a Feb. 9 news release.

As part of the agreement, Brookfield Renewable will provide "significant capital" to construct the portfolio, while Cambridge Power will manage the construction and operations of the assets, the release said.

Construction is expected to start this year, with the projects slated to come online in 2023.

Founded by Pigeon Investment Management Ltd. in 2018, Cambridge Power develops, constructs and operates grid-scale energy storage and renewable generation assets throughout the U.K.
